A light room lay before her, stairs spiraling to the top. The only thing close to what Airiss has seen of this was a hotel, on the bottom twelve identical doors. Then the staircase goes up, eleven doors, and so on. She squinted at the top, one door. Her quest had begun; she and Roxie would go through all the doors and get to the top. She looked at the congruent doors, she would lose her spot. “Airiss…ahh there you are! Ready to go back? Time is of the essence, and dinner is soon to begin.”
“I don’t know how to work this fluffy thing! I don’t even have your stupid number.” She angrily told Sean. So after dinner she had a “cell phone class” in which she would learn to operate the device. An hour later she and Sean were texting pictures of things they found in the yard until it grew too dark to see. So, being lost again, Sean picked her up at the stables. They had to carry Roxie away because she wouldn’t stop barking at the horses, and was ready to attack a four-wheeler.
Still thinking of the spiraling atrium, she asked “That room I was in…what was it used for?” Sean seemed to be seeing how much she could handle then he said, “Guest rooms, …that’s the room Clare was last in when she went so called crazy. Personally, I think it happened in there.” Airiss looked sideways at him as they walked. “You actually think she saw fairies? Um…Right.”
“You don’t?”
“Course not…I stopped believing in fairies when I was like five, you ever been to junior high?” Sean looked back at Airiss with an expression of confusion and Surprise. “Not allowed…I’m a butler…all I need to know are the grounds, how to clean up, read, write, and answer doors. Besides, there are only private schools around here. You get to take online classes,” she looked away from the boy and folded her arms. He continued “but, we get a summer break earlier than the schools and it lasts many more days so at the moment you’re on vacation…from May to October fifth. So you need not look so sour.”
“What kind of a sixteen year old talks like that? You talk and walk but you’re not really proper! That’s not you, so what is?” Sean looked at the dog he was holding and set it down gently. Then flipped his head up, as if to get the hair out of his face and replied, “I talk as I wish-as do you. I need be proper for a lady…if I get caught speaking rashly, I will be severely punished.” As he sarcastically said this, his smile gradually became broad. They were at the door to her bedroom. “… Me need not you to me accompany!” She smiled, popped her foot in a girly way. Then went in the door and shut it softly. Sean knocked at the door, she opened it and her dog ran in he was afraid of being forgotten. Later she went to bed; her dog fell asleep with her head on Airiss’s stomach.

The annoying sound of that cussed alarm clock rang at eight thirty like it was told to do, but its purpose was not served. Airiss was already up, showered, and putting on her last shoe. Hopping out the door, she was happy to be alone…well with her dog.
“Left past the creepy statue of a goblin that looks like it wants to eat me, straight down the next fork, and down the creepy hall with no light.” Thought Airiss to herself, “I am determined to do this myself! Nothing could stop me in me attempts to…” CRASH! Airiss swirled around, her hair flinging round her in a dazzling circle and there he was!
“Can’t I get ANY peace by myself? My heck!” He had fallen over a big ceramic bowl that looked like in its previous days it had been a chamber pot. She walked over to the klutz and helped him up. “Well professionally I should say something like ‘it’s my duty to follow you’ but between you, me, and the fence post, I just don’t want door duty.”
She studied his face for a minute secretly thinking if he weren’t so good looking it would be easer to decline him, she thought of a reason to accept and still keep her position. “Fine, only because for once you acting like a teenager! You don’t even know were I’m going!” With a sideways smirk clearly saying he got his way he stated, with no question in his tone “Your going to the room were it happened, you’re curious”
“AS IF!”
When they reached the door no one said anything but acted as if it was totally random and spontaneous. They tentatively walked in turned on the light and shut the door. Thirteen identical doors, including the one they had just come through.
“How are we going to remember witch doors we went through, or even the exit?” Sean smiled, he was thinking of the old rugs they were about to through out.
Within half an hour they had become MVP spy agents, creeping about the house as to haul one hundred or so almost brand new rugs. Sean had muttered something about one for each day of the year and they were now restocking. With a thud, the last pile. The rugs light rugs did take a lot of energy to haul. She would carry around twenty while he carried around thirty, which he gloated at until she told him she might excuse him from her presence if he did not shut up!
When they had moved all the mats into the big room, Airiss began to laugh soon followed by Sean. “You would think we would have gotten caught, the way we wentabout it! Well, better put a mat to show the front door.” He took the nearest one and plopped it down in front of the door. Airiss could not roll her eyes big enough for her exasperation.
She rummaged around, finding a bright orange plastic mat in the middle of some woven rugs. She began to yank and with one aggressive pull she was on the ground, the mat had flown over her head. Roxanne to happy to have something to do ran to it and began to attack it with such vigor the two could not help but laugh so hard no noise came from them. Finally Sean dashed over to the pup and took the poor mat from her grasp.
It had suffered the loss of a daisy that protruded from the corners, but nothing big. They set the mat in front of the first door. Just as they were about to turn it, the “Every time we touch” began to buzz from her pocket. She pulled out the cell phone, and looked to see that it was her mom calling.
“Hey Mom…What?! …Aw Mom, me and Lance have been have a…eww mom…no…two…four…fine five…Love you to Mom.” She snapped the phone shut. Sean let his hand drop from the doorknob. He looked at her curiously, she sighed and began to the newly marked exit. “Lunch time…she wanted me to stay and eat for ten minutes, I bartered it down to five. Will you eat lunch with me? Or are you to below me?” His face fell; she realized she said the embarrassing truth “Lance that is just…STUPID! Having a sandwich in the dining room and the kitchen makes no reference to class…besides other than being a girl we are the same.”
They were half way there, she turned down a hall way only to have Sean’s hands on her shoulders pulling her to the dinning room “Think what they might say if you show up in the kitchen with me? I will be done in four minutes and will have some way to carry the mats up the stairs.” With that he was off and she was extremely flustered but decided it was best and ran along to the dining room.
